Raul Perdomo was born 1966 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He currently lives and works in Miami, Florida.
Artist Statement:
"By directly engaging the utopian ideals anticipated in sci-fi culture with the most recent speculations gaining scientific currency, ‘THE MULTIVERSE WORKS’ series, examines the paradoxical quest of redefining meaning lost in a time of phenomenal technological progress and supreme dominance of the information media. “Using a confluence of visual conditions, I am trying to create an imagined language, which charts the consequential interrelatedness between structured orders and chance randomness.”
Appropriated imagery is an integral aspect of the visual strategy behind this work. Information resourced from an increasingly expansive supply of sources ranging from molecular physics and cosmology to MRI scans and cartography provide the theoretical background to an alternative reality where tangible intelligence gained through technological advancement plays a perpetual and transformative role in contemporary society’s intangible hunger for modern myth. The epitome of this struggle provides us not only with new methods and new understandings but also, crucially important tools if we are to re-interpret the influence of world myths, history and religious narratives against our own contemporary perspective."
